National Unemployment Continued Claims in 2022 - 2023

Continued Claims are the total number of unemployed receiving unemployment insurance benefits. Note that if a person who is still unemployed after the benefit period expires will not be included in the continued claims numbers.

The chart shows the trend in national continued claims using several measures provided by the Department of Labor. One trend line shows the seasonally adjusted data for this chart.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Seasonal adjustment is a statistical technique that attempts to measure and remove the influences of predictable seasonal patterns to reveal how employment and unemployment change from month to month”. Another trend line shows the raw data and the last trend line shows the 4-week average seasonally adjusted data.
