National Unemployment Initial Claims in 2022 - 2023

Initial Claims statistics are provided weekly by the U.S. Department of Labor which count the number of persons who file for unemployment benefits for the first time.

The chart shows the trend in national initial claims using several measures provided by the Department of Labor. One trend line shows the seasonally adjusted data for this chart.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Seasonal adjustment is a statistical technique that attempts to measure and remove the influences of predictable seasonal patterns to reveal how employment and unemployment change from month to month”.

Another trend line shows the raw data and the last trend line shows the 4 week average seasonally adjusted data.
